Our Story

It is a particular passion for the Philippines and an unconditional love for animals that led the founder to follow her calling to Palawan, a small island located north of Borneo. There, this former active member of the "Gaia" and "Animals in Danger" associations in Belgium dedicated herself on the ground to alleviating the suffering of abandoned and abused animals. Palawan represents the most beautiful, preserved, and authentic region of this wonderful country, but also the most challenging for carrying out such projects.

The initial goal was to rehabilitate wild animals held illegally. Very quickly, she realized that stray dogs also required urgent intervention. She then set up, in collaboration with municipal veterinarians and Dr. Danilo Quintero, a mobile clinic to spay and neuter dogs and cats.

To be officially recognized by the authorities, she established in March 2000 a foundation called "Palawan Animal Welfare Foundation, Inc." under registration number A200003956.

The foundation is accredited by the city of Puerto Princesa as well as by the province of Palawan.

In March 2001, a new project to rescue carabaos (Asian water buffalo) was launched. It is based on petitions, letters of protest addressed to the Department of Agriculture, as well as the purchase of the bare ownership of the carabaos, leaving their usufruct to the sellers so they can continue to produce rice, fruits, and vegetables. The goal is to remove these animals from the meat market and help impoverished farmers retain their valuable work partner.

Furthermore, the founder goes daily to the ante mortem area of a slaughterhouse to welcome pigs, cattle, and goats, in order to prevent the brutality inflicted by traders on these innocent animals sacrificed on the altar of gluttony.
